Just installed this from the 07/2022 shipment, on my 99' 986. It came with four 3.5" 4Ω Kicker speakers-- each side's speakers wired in parallel, two wire looms with optional connectors, grilles for the shelf, and a bag of clips/ties from Porsche(this may be NOS or just new stock, not sure, but it is OE). I rewired them into series and connected them to an Alpine MRP-F600 amp, fed by a Blaupunk Bremen SQR 46 DAB.
-They sound AMAZING, not just loud or bassy, but very clear. It seems you don't need that much volume when you're not dependent on only the dash and door speakers. They really add an extra jeuje to music, you never knew was missing.
-Install is easy (if you have access to different instructions-- more of this in cons)
-Provided instructions are terrible (install "manual" is just a copy of an old Porsche tech service bulletin in b/w). The pictures are just awful. I suggest you look up the pelican parts article on their speaker install-- you will get better pictures, instructions, and a better idea of what you're trying to accomplish. Once you see what you wanna end with, it's super easy.
Notes: Install took me ~3 hours, even with rewiring the speakers, to series, and threading the wires to the frunk, to my amp. I used a long zip tie (like 36") to fish the wire through the firewall. There is a hole behind the driver's side of the battery that drops in above the brake pedal. The instructions recommend dremeling away the epoxy between the cubby and shelf-- I just pried them apart with a thin flathead screwdriver, slowly but firmly-- due to the age of the epoxy, it simply lifted away. Be careful with where you leave the speaker/harness connection point-- it's very easy to end up with it sitting near the passenger seat belt or the convertible top fold-- just triple check for moving parts and re-route accordingly.
End result: Highly HIGHLY recommend, just wish they included more thorough and clear instructions for those who are not familiar with this modification.

I received this for Christmas of 2021 - and just got around to installing it (May 2022). It was a 2 day project. The first day was installing the speakers in the storage shelf unit. The instructions are excellent, but could use a bit of modification:
1. The instructions have the owner installing the grilles AFTER the speakers are mounted in the storage box. This would make it very difficult to really attach the grilles to the box. It should be done BEFORE installing the speakers.
2. The instructions suggest using hot-glue to fasten the grilles. The hot glue is useful for the top edge of the grille, where it will be hard to reach when installed.. but for the bottom edge of the grille I used a thick 2-sided adhesive tape - it worked well.
3. I needed to snip off about 1/8" from the end of each grille to get it to lay flat in the housing. Easy with a pair of tin-snips.
4. Wiring is much easier if it's done by passing the wire down behind the seat-belt carpeting, then across the rear-firewall at the junction of the removable carpeting and the fixed carpeting, then tuck it up under the edge of the center console. While the factory may have installed it under the door-sill carpeting, that requires removal of the seat, removal of the interior carpeting, just a whole bunch more work for no gain.
As far as quality - excellent. Sound is excellent! Satisfaction is high!

Bought this at the same time as upgrading sound system to Crutchfield Bluetooth and rear camera system. Installation of the entire system was significant, but very doable. This speaker kit was straightforward, looks great, and sounds terrific.
Quit thinking about it every time you drive top down. Just get it.

Purchased the kit for straight replacement of OEM rear speakers in 2001 Boxster S. Considered trying to find compatible “speaker only” option, but avoided numerous installation headaches by spending some extra dollars for this kit. It literally took 10 minutes to swap speakers and storage unit wiring harness (excluding removal of storage unit). Wiring harness plugged directly into OEM harness from radio, which had previously been upgraded.
Sound is at least as good as OEM speakers (and WAY better than 20 year old speakers with disintegrated foam).
If you are considering replacing existing speakers, this is a way to save yourself a bunch of time.

Makes huge difference in stereo quality. Easy to install, everything in one box.

This kit is fantastic - brings the audio to life! My installer said it was an excellent quality product, also, he had a couple of questions when installing and Suncoast tech help came through. Excellent dealer and excellent product.

Great addition for the sound quality of my boxster 986 1999.

I added this to my 2008 Boxster base model. It has greatly improved the sound with the speakers in the rear. The job was not difficult and took a 1/2 day or so. I am very good with mechanical things. I did carefully follow the instructions which were very helpful. It was worth the cost and effort.

I bought this kit over a year ago, and it was money well spent. I was very disappointed in the stock setup in my 2011 Boxster, which was even worse with the top down. I added these along with a new head unit and amplifier, and the system sounds really great.

I installed the rear speakers and the enhanced sound is incredible with the factory CDR220. Also added an AUX to crank my digital catalog. Love it!
