The second-generation Taycan arrived as a mid-cycle refresh unveiled in February 2024 and landed at US dealers for the 2025 model year, and it's the kind of update that reads far bigger than the "refresh" label suggests. Every trim got more power from a new, lighter rear-axle motor delivering up to 107 hp more than the outgoing unit, meaningful range improvements, and quicker charging, all before Porsche added two genuinely new members to the lineup. The Turbo GT arrived weeks after the initial reveal as an entirely new flagship tier, and the Taycan 4 and a heavily revised GTS followed that November, rounding the range out to its current seven-trim spread.

The core architecture carries over from the first generation, 800-volt electronics and the 2-speed rear transaxle remain, but nearly everything around them was reworked. DC fast-charging now peaks at 320 kW, up 50 kW from before, cutting a 10 to 80 percent charge to around 18 minutes. A new push-to-pass function, standard with the Sport Chrono package, adds up to 70 kW of additional power for 10 seconds at the push of a button, stacking on top of whatever overboost a given trim already offers. Battery options were restructured around a Performance Battery and the larger Performance Battery Plus, with usable capacity now reaching 97 kWh on the bigger pack. Output spans from 402 hp in the entry-level rear-wheel-drive car to as much as 1,092 hp for a two-second burst in the Turbo GT with Attack Mode engaged, and 0 to 60 mph times run from 4.5 seconds down to 2.1 seconds at the top of the range.

Body style availability shifted from the first generation in a few notable ways. The base Taycan remains sedan-only, but the new Taycan 4 opened up all-wheel drive across sedan, Sport Turismo, and Cross Turismo at the entry price point, something the first generation never offered. The GTS retained its Sport Turismo option but lost Cross Turismo, while the Turbo and Turbo S dropped Sport Turismo in the current US lineup, now offered only as sedan and Cross Turismo. The Turbo GT and Turbo GT with Weissach Package, the most powerful series-production Porsche ever built at launch, remain sedan-only.
