Product Details

After a very extensive R & D program IPD has launched the new 981 IPD 82mm Competition Plenums. Available only as the "Competition" version for the 981 Plenums which upgrades the factory 74mm throttle body with the larger 997 GT3 82mm throttle body. This combination has proven to be considerably more popular and deliver even more performance. This Competition version will work with both 3.4 "S" and 2.9 "Non-S" applications.

The 981 intake is nearly identical to the 987.2 intake. Porsche made a few upgrades with the 981, most notably being that the 981 draws outside air from both driver and passenger air intakes instead of the driver's side only as previously found with all 986, 987 and 987.2 applications. IPD has developed a custom silicone hose designed to perfectly fit the larger 82mm TB and considerably improve air flow.

The new 981 Plenums also benefits from the internal dimpling effect that we are now implementing on all future Plenums. This internal dimpling allows us to control the boundary layer and maximize air flow. Just like a dimpled golf ball travels farther than a smooth golf ball. Controlled turbulent air creates less friction and "tumbles" over a given area more efficiently.

Power gains with the 981 Competition Plenum are virtually the same as with the 987.2 Competition Plenum, putting down 20 horsepower and 16 foot pounds of torque at the wheels. The bulk of the power gains from the IPD Plenum begin around 4000 rpm, continues all the way through to redline and become fully realized in the 6000 rpm range. IPD performance gains stay above both factory power curves throughout the entire rev range.

Comes with a competition IPD Plenum, GT3 82mm throttle body, and rubber adapter Y-hose. Not a factory part, made by IPD.

Fits all 2013-2016 Boxster or Cayman models (including base, "S", GTS, GT4, & Spyder models).

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Professional installation required, and throttle body adaptaion is necessary for the best results and peak power. Must be done with a PIWIS tester. In some cases, aftermarket performance software is required to get peak performance and to remove dash warning lights.

IPD Plenum & 82mm throttle body
5 out of 5 stars.

Installed this combination on my 2016 GT4, as well as on our 2009 C4S. Doable as a DIY project; several hours on each car, with over half the time spent securing the two piece clamps and rubber boots which connect the intakes to the plenum. Also, with the Cayman I had to spend several hours kneeling in the trunk for engine compartment access. Differences are discernable (more so on the manual GT4 than on the PDK C4S), both in terms of engine intake/exhaust note, and in the mid the mid-high rev range. Definitely a worthwhile improvement on each car.

Just had the IPD plenum and TB installed on my 2014 Cayman S and am still testing it. However, my initial impressions are very favorable. My mechanic and I both feel that the intake "note" has changed and feels much less restricted and seems smoother while climbing through the revs. As is mentioned in the description of this product the most power gains seem to be above 3500 rpm but the engine seems to breathe much better and run smoother even at lower revs. A word of caution, however. On the 981s this installation is really not advised for DIYers. My mechanic had to disassemble the rear trunk to get complete access to the engine and the job took 5+ hours.

Porsche Parts Warranty Information — Suncoast Porsche

Understanding your warranty coverage is important. Below is a complete overview of warranty terms for Genuine Porsche OEM parts, aftermarket parts, and closeout items purchased from Suncoast Porsche and SuncoastParts.com.

Warranty Coverage by Product Type

Genuine Porsche OEM Parts — 2-Year Warranty

All Genuine Porsche OEM parts purchased from Suncoast Porsche or SuncoastParts.com come with a 2-year, unlimited mileage, parts-only warranty beginning on the date of purchase.

If your parts are installed at an authorized Porsche Service Center, both parts and labor warranty coverage may apply if the part is deemed defective within the 2-year warranty period. Coverage varies by location — please check with your local Porsche dealer prior to installation to confirm their specific warranty participation, as each Porsche Center is independently owned and operated.

Important warranty notes for online purchases:

  • Labor, diagnostic, and installation fees are not covered when parts are purchased online from SuncoastParts.com or Suncoast Porsche, unless the parts are installed by an authorized Porsche Service Center
  • Warranty claims must be processed in person at an authorized Porsche Service Center
  • Warranty service is honored at any authorized Porsche dealer in the United States, however some dealers may decline warranty claims for parts purchased online or from another dealership — always verify with your local dealer before installation
  • If a warranty claim is approved and the part was not installed by a Porsche Service Center, installation of the replacement part remains the customer's responsibility
  • Suncoast Porsche and SuncoastParts.com are not liable for any diagnostic, labor, or installation fees charged by another Porsche Service Center

Aftermarket & Performance Parts

Warranty coverage for aftermarket and performance parts varies by manufacturer. Most carry a 1-year limited warranty. Contact us for specific warranty details on any aftermarket product. Please note that diagnostic time and labor costs for warranty replacements are not covered.

Take-Off & Closeout Parts

All take-off and closeout parts are sold as-is with no warranty and are not eligible for return. Pricing on these items reflects their as-is condition.

What This Warranty Does Not Cover

The following situations and conditions are explicitly excluded from warranty coverage:

  • Improper Installation or Misuse — Damage resulting from incorrect installation, negligence, unauthorized alteration, or accident. This includes any use in racing, competition, or motorsport applications
  • Lack of Proper Maintenance — Damage caused by failure to follow the vehicle's recommended Maintenance Schedule, or failure to use the correct fluids, fuel, oil, or lubricants as specified in the Owner's Manual. Proof of proper maintenance is the owner's responsibility — retain all service receipts in case questions arise
  • Consequential or Economic Losses — Towing fees, rental vehicles, loss of use, loss of time, inconvenience, or any other indirect economic losses
  • Vehicles Outside the USA & Canada — Parts installed on vehicles registered or primarily operated outside of the United States or Canada are not covered under this warranty

How to Obtain Warranty Service

Installed by an Authorized Porsche Dealer

If your parts were originally installed by an authorized Porsche dealer, warranty repairs may be performed by that same dealer or any other authorized Porsche Service Center in the United States. Please allow a reasonable timeframe for repairs after delivering your vehicle to the dealership.

Installed by an Independent Repair Shop

Please be aware: All warranty claims must be inspected, performed, and documented by factory-trained Porsche technicians at an authorized Porsche dealership. Work performed at an independent repair shop does not qualify for warranty consideration. If warranty coverage is a priority, we strongly recommend having your parts installed at an authorized Porsche Service Center.

Documentation Requirements for Warranty Claims

To process a warranty claim, the servicing Porsche dealer will require:

  • Your original sales receipt or order confirmation from SuncoastParts.com or Suncoast Porsche
  • A completed warranty certificate
  • Proof of proper vehicle maintenance history (if applicable)

Suncoast Porsche retains sales records on file for two years. If you need a copy of your receipt, contact us and we will provide it promptly.

Additional Warranty Terms & Legal Disclaimers

This warranty provides you with specific legal rights. You may also have additional rights that vary by state.

Porsche does not authorize any individual or organization to create additional obligations or liabilities beyond those stated in this warranty. Any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose is limited in duration to the term of this written warranty. The exclusive remedy under this warranty is the repair or replacement of the defective part.

Suncoast Porsche and SuncoastParts.com shall not be liable for any incidental or consequential damages arising from a breach of this written warranty or any implied warranty.

Some states do not permit limitations on implied warranty duration or the exclusion of incidental or consequential damages — the above limitations may not apply in your state. Additionally, installation of certain parts or accessories may affect your Porsche New Vehicle Warranty. Please consult your authorized Porsche dealer for full terms, or contact us with any questions.
