What Sport Mode Does For Your Porsche

Engine Sport mode activates an enhanced throttle map that dramatically widens the throttle valve opening relative to pedal input — delivering significantly more immediate throttle response. In higher gears, a hard rev-limiter helps protect the engine under hard acceleration, keeping the powerplant in its optimal performance window.

Suspension & Brakes For vehicles equipped with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Sport mode switches the dampers to their firmest setting for sharper body control and more direct steering response. PSM is set to standby mode for maximum driver engagement, while still intervening automatically when ABS assistance is required — the performance envelope widens, but the safety net remains.

Transmission For Tiptronic and PDK equipped cars, Sport mode delays shift points into the upper rev range, shortens shift times, and enables swifter brake-induced downshifts. In manual mode, gear changes become faster and more dynamic. PSM trigger thresholds are raised for increased longitudinal and lateral dynamics — more agility under braking, more confidence on corner exit, especially at lower speeds.

The car is now ALIVE!! Bought this from Suncoast, and the switch panel arrived quickly, very pleased! Switch replacement was easy peasy, did that myself (took all of 5 minutes). Went to my local Porsche Dealer, had them install the software. They had no problems, and it worked the first time. Just driving on the way home in sport mode was incredible!! The shifts were tighter, and the gearing stretched out longer letting the car really react quickly to acceleration. One of the best upgrades you can do if your 997.2 does not have Sport Chrono. I will say that now I understand why it's no wonder most people order the option straight from the factory! Thanks!!

987.2 Base Manual

This was a pricey endeavor but I felt it was worth it. For a manual the only noticeable change is the throttle mapping. It makes the standard mapping seem dull. The car seems to have more getup and go on part throttle passing on the highway. I had this done at my local dealer because of the code you need from Porsche and I didn't want to try and take parts from another dealer into them and risk them telling me no. Add 50% to this here and that's where I ended up at fully installed. I also had to coach them a little bit on what to order but they figured out the correct button module which just has the Sport button, spoiler, and PSM button.

I debated adding this to my base 987.2; with installation, it's over $1,500. After two months, I can say: in heavy traffic, or cruising on the highway, I leave the pdk in standard mode. When there's more shifting to be done in normal driving, Sport is fun. On the track, and on occasion when you want max power on the road, Sport Plus is a blast. Glad I got it.

You will notice that almost every review you read about retrofitting this Sport Mode is from owners of the PDK Caymans, well here's one for the MANUAL trans guys. The Sport Mode doesn't do as much for a manual as it does for the PDK, it does make a noticeable difference over stock though. I no longer have to mash the pedal to the floor to get to the high RPM's. Throttle is MUCH more responsive and feathering it can make a big difference in controlling your speed or RPM's. That's obviously not the case with the stock throttle settings or else you wouldn't even be considering this Sport Mode upgrade! It won't make the car faster but it absolutely will make it FEEL faster and pull harder. It totally feels like added low end torque and that is something all Caymans need. Some will say "Oh it's just a high priced sprint booster on a manual trans" BULL PLOP!!! That is absolutely not true. Sport Mode is designed by the same engineers that pull 2.9 second 0-60 times out of flat 6 engines. So yeah, it's definitely not "just a sprint booster." Well worth the price and I would not want to go without Sport Mode on any Porsche.

I just purchased a 997.2 with PDK - no chrono. Read Sharkwerks review of suggested / possible upgrades and this is first on the list. Don't hesitate - I don't know why you would have this option installed - this is what the car is supposed to be coming from the factory. it transforms the PDK, PASM, and throttle and is a no Brainer. I installed the switches, local Porsche dealer did the software upgrade for $176 -1 hr. Next step is the mid pipe upgrade.

Had this upgrade installed on my 2011 base Cayman with PDK (no PASM). Purchased from Suncoast to avoid sales tax and had my local Porsche shop (Rector) do the install ($315). My Cayman now drives like a different car. Sport mode is totally exhilarating - it really ought to come standard with PDK. I rarely use the Sport Plus as I donâ€™t autocross. I canâ€™t think of any better upgrade that you could install for under $1,500. Do yourself a favor and order it now!

This is the way a 911 was meant to drive. If you have a PDK and are considering this, don't hesitate any longer. Sport mode has made my 997.2 a different car. One caveat: make sure your dealer knows how to find the activation code in PWIS. Whem my (inexperienced) dealer didn't, Suncoast stepped in and told them how to do the install.

I have had this product in my 2.9 Cayman and now in my 3.4 Cayman S (both 987.2). Both vehicles have 6 speed manuals and neither one has PASM or sport exhaust. In the 2.9 it made the vehicle a much better daily driver. The throttle response is more aggressive and the car allows you to explore its abilities to a greater extent. I believe Porsche also gives you a couple hundred more rpm's to play with, albeit with a more aggressive limiter. In the 3.4, I honestly use it with less frequency as the additional torque found in the CS makes it less necessary during daily driving. That being said, when I go out with my Cars & Coffee buddies, it is nice to know that with a push of a button I can keep up with much more powerful vehicles on backroads. Now, I am not saying it adds any additional power, but it does alter the way that power is delivered resulting in the car doing more with less.

Warranty Coverage by Product Type

Genuine Porsche OEM Parts — 2-Year Warranty

All Genuine Porsche OEM parts purchased from Suncoast Porsche or SuncoastParts.com come with a 2-year, unlimited mileage, parts-only warranty beginning on the date of purchase.

If your parts are installed at an authorized Porsche Service Center, both parts and labor warranty coverage may apply if the part is deemed defective within the 2-year warranty period. Coverage varies by location — please check with your local Porsche dealer prior to installation to confirm their specific warranty participation, as each Porsche Center is independently owned and operated.

Important warranty notes for online purchases:

Labor, diagnostic, and installation fees are not covered when parts are purchased online from SuncoastParts.com or Suncoast Porsche, unless the parts are installed by an authorized Porsche Service Center
Warranty claims must be processed in person at an authorized Porsche Service Center
Warranty service is honored at any authorized Porsche dealer in the United States, however some dealers may decline warranty claims for parts purchased online or from another dealership — always verify with your local dealer before installation

What This Warranty Does Not Cover

The following situations and conditions are explicitly excluded from warranty coverage:

Improper Installation or Misuse — Damage resulting from incorrect installation, negligence, unauthorized alteration, or accident. This includes any use in racing, competition, or motorsport applications
Lack of Proper Maintenance — Damage caused by failure to follow the vehicle's recommended Maintenance Schedule, or failure to use the correct fluids, fuel, oil, or lubricants as specified in the Owner's Manual. Proof of proper maintenance is the owner's responsibility — retain all service receipts in case questions arise
Consequential or Economic Losses — Towing fees, rental vehicles, loss of use, loss of time, inconvenience, or any other indirect economic losses

How to Obtain Warranty Service

Installed by an Authorized Porsche Dealer

If your parts were originally installed by an authorized Porsche dealer, warranty repairs may be performed by that same dealer or any other authorized Porsche Service Center in the United States. Please allow a reasonable timeframe for repairs after delivering your vehicle to the dealership.

Installed by an Independent Repair Shop

Please be aware: All warranty claims must be inspected, performed, and documented by factory-trained Porsche technicians at an authorized Porsche dealership. Work performed at an independent repair shop does not qualify for warranty consideration. If warranty coverage is a priority, we strongly recommend having your parts installed at an authorized Porsche Service Center.

Documentation Requirements for Warranty Claims

To process a warranty claim, the servicing Porsche dealer will require:
