The Porsche Litronic 2.1 lighting system comprises the following components: Lens + screen, gaseous-discharge lamp, polyellipsoid (PES) reflector, electronic choke. The lens and polyellipsoid (PES) reflector provide maximum forward illumination, and best-possible illumination of the sides of the road. The use of the gaseous-discharge lamp, which generates a 4.3 mm long arc, approximately doubles the light density and therefore the brightness compared with normal halogen units (with a reduction in power consumption of approximately 30%). Better matched to human vision through careful choice of glass and filler.
