Just like the original shifter, with a stiffer and much harder throw

It's harder to put into gear. It's just like your original shifter but just shorter. I like it, I use it with the OEM knob, reverse is VERY force full to put in. Im so use to it though.

I didn't like the tall shifter on my 991.1 so this was one of the first upgrades i did. However, after 2 years and only 6000 miles, the plastic bushings and overall poor design is starting to make alot of noise when shifting. As another reviewer mentioned, it's the same as stock only a bit shorter. I decided to purchase the numeric shifter which will arrive next week.

While the stock 718 shifter has a nice action to it, the throws are a bit long for my liking. This is the perfect solution which lowers the knob almost 1 inch (seems like more). Installation was straightforward and took me about 1-1/2 hours Well worth the cost and effort.
This shifter height is spot on. The positioning is perfect and a huge improvement over the stock shifter height. Genuine OEM product. Although not a true short throw shifter, stock cable linkages are adjustable from the factory so you’re able to reduce lever travel to what feels best for you.
What all 981s should have

I’ve always thought the 981 shifters were abnormally tall. This short shifter kit gives these cars exactly what they should’ve had from the start. I think it’s a must have especially for the relatively low cost and surprisingly simple install. Watched a video by TommyLGarage and did this in about 30 minutes with no problems. Highly recommend to any 981 enthusiast.

If you're considering buying this just do it. It's a no-brainer. Shifting is much more natural and it feels great. Not sure what people are talking about when they say it's notchy or stiff. I don't experience any of that, but I had my Porsche dealer install it so possibly they don't have theirs aligned correctly.
Very nice upgrade - 981

Very easy to install by yourself, watched a youtube video of another brand short shifter where they took the interior apart. Took about 1.5 hours. Nice improvement with shifter knob position (which is way too high stock) and makes the throw much nicer. As others have noted, it definitely makes you put a little more effort to send it over to Reverse. Well worth the money!!
Easy and effective

Easy to install following youtube videos and took a little over an hour. Very effective - much tighter, faster shift and possibly the best value upgrade around using Porsche OEM parts. Added bonus, stronger reverse detent.
NICE IMPROVEMENT

my 981 boxster s only has 30k miles, but the shifter mechanism had begun to feel a bit looser lately. this was a mod I wanted to do from day one, but finally just pulled the trigger on it last week.
LOVE IT! this is what our cars should get when new!
not only is there a nice improvement in the height and throw - like others say, it also feels more direct and precise. I measured the height and throw on the stock one before removing - height is reduced 1", and the throw is reduced by 1.125". these numbers are both roughly 25%. perhaps my shifter was wearing a bit which would explain the looser feel compared to this new one..
I disagree with the one review that states is it the same mechanism with a shorter lever - the fulcrum would also need to move to yield a 25% change.
Installation was a breeze for me because I was already familiar with safely removing the center console parts (hardest part) - took me 45 mins total - any mechanic familiar with these cars should NEVER charge more than and hour labor FYI
anyway - if you're on the fence, don't be - this is a great mod that you feel constantly while driving - for $250 shipped.
Not Much of a Change on a Late Model Car

Purchased this short shifter for a 2019 base Cayman. Installation was straight forward and easy. However, keep in mind this shifter is identical to the stock shifter other than the length of the shifter lever. It's simply just a reduction of height on the lever and it appears there are zero other changes to the shifting mechanism. After installation, the shift action is pretty much the same as it was before other than the slightly reduced throw of the shift lever. Reverse is significantly harder to engage due to the lack of leverage to move the lever past the resistance point. My wife struggles with reverse engagement now and it's a two handed affair for her due to the loss of leverage. While it's a fine product overall, I think the change on my late model car was not worth the money or installation time.
