Genuine OEM Short Shift Kit – 996/997/986/987 For 1997–2012 Porsche 911 Carrera, Boxster & Cayman | Manual Transmission

This is the real thing. The Genuine Porsche OEM Short Shift Kit is the factory-engineered answer for drivers who want a sharper, more mechanical shift feel without stepping outside the Porsche parts ecosystem. Same fitment tolerances, same build quality — just a fundamentally better shift experience straight from the source.

The performance gain is chassis-dependent and measurable: shift throw is reduced by up to 35% on 996/986 models and up to 20% on 997/987 models. That's not a subtle refinement — it's a transformation in how the car communicates through your hand. Gear engagement feels more deliberate, transitions feel tighter, and the feedback through the lever is exactly what these platforms were built to deliver.

The complete console assembly integrates seamlessly with factory shift knobs and maintains full OEM fitment precision. No adapters, no compromises. One cold-start note worth knowing: gear lever travel may feel slightly restricted until the transmission warms up — a known characteristic of the reduced-throw mechanism, not a fitment issue.

Best upgrade for 2003 Porsche 996

I've done several modifications and this one makes a difference of day and night when driving the car. This is definitely worth the money.

Seriously impressed with the transformation. If you’re looking at this, pull the trigger, you won’t regret it!
So Much Better Than I Expected!

2007 Cayman Base. Okay, I was skeptical about upgrading the the short shift kit. Just installed it and OMG what a difference! The shifts are short (noticeably shorter than stock) and very crisp. Huge difference over factory. As a previous reviewer stated " This should have been installed as original equipment", It makes all the difference in the way the car drives. My revs used to drop almost to idle with the long throws of the stock shifter, but now the revs don't drop nearly as much. MUCH more pleasure and fun driving the car. I'm wanting to drive it even more now. Took about two and a half hours to install start to finish. Maybe not for everyone but I highly recommend it!! Glad I did it, no regrets.
upgraded shifter in 2003 996

Easily the best update I've done on my 996. The install is simple, and the difference is night and day. The short throw is much better than I expected, and I did not expect the dramatic improvement in shifting crispness. I didn't really realize how sloppy the original shifter is until I installed this upgrade. Also kudos to Suncoast Parts, they are a pleasure to work with.
Easy to install, excellent for the price

Almost all plastic, so there are certainly better assemblies out there, but for the price it's the best bang-for-the-buck upgrade you'll ever do yourself. And even if you don't really need/want shorter throws (its not a huge difference anyway), it feels like new compared to the now 10+ year old stock shifter you're replacing. There are several good videos demonstrating the install process, but I used a simple "pictorial" with some helpful tips and had no problems. One hour if you've done this sort of thing before. Two hours if you have to go to the store to replace a screw or get a tool, so make sure you have the recommended toolkit, and keep the right screws with the right trim piece, because they kind of all look the same...but are definitely not.
Love the feel

I already looked for every opportunity to drive my 996, but after putting the SSK I find myself volunteering to run all errands. The install was quite straight forward with the help of a few YouTube videos. I would highly recommend this upgrade, especially if you’re considering replacing a worn out stock shifter.
Totally Blown Away

I have a 2004 996 GT3 and have owned the car since new. After 14.5 years of ownership, I decided to replace the worn yet still relatively new gear shifter with something a bit more sporty (shorter throws). I'm totally blown away by this new short shift kit, it entirely transformed my GT3!! This is the way the gears should shift right out of the factory.
Wow

The short shifter improves the driving experience. With the Tube Exhaust upgrade, there is no craving for the latest and greatest 911 Turbo. See my separate review on the Tube Exhaust.

Best money I've spent on my car yet. This should be standard in all Porsches. Tighter and shorter!

Porsche Parts Warranty Information — Suncoast Porsche

Understanding your warranty coverage is important. Below is a complete overview of warranty terms for Genuine Porsche OEM parts, aftermarket parts, and closeout items purchased from Suncoast Porsche and SuncoastParts.com.

Warranty Coverage by Product Type

Genuine Porsche OEM Parts — 2-Year Warranty

All Genuine Porsche OEM parts purchased from Suncoast Porsche or SuncoastParts.com come with a 2-year, unlimited mileage, parts-only warranty beginning on the date of purchase.

If your parts are installed at an authorized Porsche Service Center, both parts and labor warranty coverage may apply if the part is deemed defective within the 2-year warranty period. Coverage varies by location — please check with your local Porsche dealer prior to installation to confirm their specific warranty participation, as each Porsche Center is independently owned and operated.

Important warranty notes for online purchases:

  • Labor, diagnostic, and installation fees are not covered when parts are purchased online from SuncoastParts.com or Suncoast Porsche, unless the parts are installed by an authorized Porsche Service Center
  • Warranty claims must be processed in person at an authorized Porsche Service Center
  • Warranty service is honored at any authorized Porsche dealer in the United States, however some dealers may decline warranty claims for parts purchased online or from another dealership — always verify with your local dealer before installation
  • If a warranty claim is approved and the part was not installed by a Porsche Service Center, installation of the replacement part remains the customer's responsibility
  • Suncoast Porsche and SuncoastParts.com are not liable for any diagnostic, labor, or installation fees charged by another Porsche Service Center

Aftermarket & Performance Parts

Warranty coverage for aftermarket and performance parts varies by manufacturer. Most carry a 1-year limited warranty. Contact us for specific warranty details on any aftermarket product. Please note that diagnostic time and labor costs for warranty replacements are not covered.

Take-Off & Closeout Parts

All take-off and closeout parts are sold as-is with no warranty and are not eligible for return. Pricing on these items reflects their as-is condition.

What This Warranty Does Not Cover

The following situations and conditions are explicitly excluded from warranty coverage:

  • Improper Installation or Misuse — Damage resulting from incorrect installation, negligence, unauthorized alteration, or accident. This includes any use in racing, competition, or motorsport applications
  • Lack of Proper Maintenance — Damage caused by failure to follow the vehicle's recommended Maintenance Schedule, or failure to use the correct fluids, fuel, oil, or lubricants as specified in the Owner's Manual. Proof of proper maintenance is the owner's responsibility — retain all service receipts in case questions arise
  • Consequential or Economic Losses — Towing fees, rental vehicles, loss of use, loss of time, inconvenience, or any other indirect economic losses
  • Vehicles Outside the USA & Canada — Parts installed on vehicles registered or primarily operated outside of the United States or Canada are not covered under this warranty

How to Obtain Warranty Service

Installed by an Authorized Porsche Dealer

If your parts were originally installed by an authorized Porsche dealer, warranty repairs may be performed by that same dealer or any other authorized Porsche Service Center in the United States. Please allow a reasonable timeframe for repairs after delivering your vehicle to the dealership.

Installed by an Independent Repair Shop

Please be aware: All warranty claims must be inspected, performed, and documented by factory-trained Porsche technicians at an authorized Porsche dealership. Work performed at an independent repair shop does not qualify for warranty consideration. If warranty coverage is a priority, we strongly recommend having your parts installed at an authorized Porsche Service Center.

Documentation Requirements for Warranty Claims

To process a warranty claim, the servicing Porsche dealer will require:

  • Your original sales receipt or order confirmation from SuncoastParts.com or Suncoast Porsche
  • A completed warranty certificate
  • Proof of proper vehicle maintenance history (if applicable)

Suncoast Porsche retains sales records on file for two years. If you need a copy of your receipt, contact us and we will provide it promptly.

Additional Warranty Terms & Legal Disclaimers

This warranty provides you with specific legal rights. You may also have additional rights that vary by state.

Porsche does not authorize any individual or organization to create additional obligations or liabilities beyond those stated in this warranty. Any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose is limited in duration to the term of this written warranty. The exclusive remedy under this warranty is the repair or replacement of the defective part.

Suncoast Porsche and SuncoastParts.com shall not be liable for any incidental or consequential damages arising from a breach of this written warranty or any implied warranty.

Some states do not permit limitations on implied warranty duration or the exclusion of incidental or consequential damages — the above limitations may not apply in your state. Additionally, installation of certain parts or accessories may affect your Porsche New Vehicle Warranty. Please consult your authorized Porsche dealer for full terms, or contact us with any questions.
