Genuine Porsche Spark Plug Set — 1978–1979 928

The original 928 arrived in 1977 as one of the most audacious engineering statements Porsche had ever made. A front-engined, water-cooled V8 grand tourer with a rear transaxle, fully independent suspension, and a level of refinement that the 911 of the era simply could not match — the 928 was Porsche's vision of where the high-performance automobile was headed, and it was compelling enough to win the 1978 Car of the Year award, the first and still one of the very few sports cars ever to do so. The 1978 and 1979 models are among the earliest production examples of this landmark car — the original 4.5-liter V8 in its first and purest form, before the successive updates and displacement increases that would follow through the model's long production run. Owning and maintaining one of these earliest 928s is an act of automotive preservation that connects directly to one of Porsche's most important chapters.

These are Genuine Porsche spark plugs, sourced through an authorized Porsche dealer and specified for the original 928's 4.5-liter V8. Factory-correct ignition components for the car that launched one of Porsche's most ambitious and enduring engineering programs.

About the Packaging Genuine Porsche spark plugs may arrive in Porsche-branded packaging or generic manufacturer packaging depending on the part — this is completely normal and consistent with how Porsche supplies these components. The plugs inside are factory-correct regardless of the box they arrive in.

File Photo Notice The photo shown is a representative file image. Actual plug appearance may vary. This listing is for the spark plug set that fits 1978–1979 928 models as noted above.

When Should You Replace Them? Spark plug replacement intervals on the earliest 928 models vary depending on driving conditions, engine state of tune, and maintenance history. Given the age and historical significance of these vehicles, we strongly recommend consulting a qualified Porsche specialist or your factory documentation to determine the correct service interval for your specific car. On a V8 of this vintage, ignition health is fundamental to how the engine runs — fresh, correctly specified plugs make a tangible difference in starting reliability, idle quality, and overall performance.

  • 1978–1979 Porsche 928

Why Genuine Porsche? One of the earliest examples of a car that won the Car of the Year award and challenged conventional thinking about what a Porsche could be deserves parts held to the factory standard it was built around. Genuine Porsche spark plugs are sourced through an authorized dealer and specified to the correct heat range, electrode gap, and thread specification the original 928's 4.5-liter V8 was engineered around. For a car this historically significant, factory-correct maintenance is the only maintenance worth doing.

Porsche Parts Warranty Information — Suncoast Porsche

Understanding your warranty coverage is important. Below is a complete overview of warranty terms for Genuine Porsche OEM parts, aftermarket parts, and closeout items purchased from Suncoast Porsche and SuncoastParts.com.

Warranty Coverage by Product Type

Genuine Porsche OEM Parts — 2-Year Warranty

All Genuine Porsche OEM parts purchased from Suncoast Porsche or SuncoastParts.com come with a 2-year, unlimited mileage, parts-only warranty beginning on the date of purchase.

If your parts are installed at an authorized Porsche Service Center, both parts and labor warranty coverage may apply if the part is deemed defective within the 2-year warranty period. Coverage varies by location — please check with your local Porsche dealer prior to installation to confirm their specific warranty participation, as each Porsche Center is independently owned and operated.

Important warranty notes for online purchases:

  • Labor, diagnostic, and installation fees are not covered when parts are purchased online from SuncoastParts.com or Suncoast Porsche, unless the parts are installed by an authorized Porsche Service Center
  • Warranty claims must be processed in person at an authorized Porsche Service Center
  • Warranty service is honored at any authorized Porsche dealer in the United States, however some dealers may decline warranty claims for parts purchased online or from another dealership — always verify with your local dealer before installation
  • If a warranty claim is approved and the part was not installed by a Porsche Service Center, installation of the replacement part remains the customer's responsibility
  • Suncoast Porsche and SuncoastParts.com are not liable for any diagnostic, labor, or installation fees charged by another Porsche Service Center

Aftermarket & Performance Parts

Warranty coverage for aftermarket and performance parts varies by manufacturer. Most carry a 1-year limited warranty. Contact us for specific warranty details on any aftermarket product. Please note that diagnostic time and labor costs for warranty replacements are not covered.

Take-Off & Closeout Parts

All take-off and closeout parts are sold as-is with no warranty and are not eligible for return. Pricing on these items reflects their as-is condition.

What This Warranty Does Not Cover

The following situations and conditions are explicitly excluded from warranty coverage:

  • Improper Installation or Misuse — Damage resulting from incorrect installation, negligence, unauthorized alteration, or accident. This includes any use in racing, competition, or motorsport applications
  • Lack of Proper Maintenance — Damage caused by failure to follow the vehicle's recommended Maintenance Schedule, or failure to use the correct fluids, fuel, oil, or lubricants as specified in the Owner's Manual. Proof of proper maintenance is the owner's responsibility — retain all service receipts in case questions arise
  • Consequential or Economic Losses — Towing fees, rental vehicles, loss of use, loss of time, inconvenience, or any other indirect economic losses
  • Vehicles Outside the USA & Canada — Parts installed on vehicles registered or primarily operated outside of the United States or Canada are not covered under this warranty

How to Obtain Warranty Service

Installed by an Authorized Porsche Dealer

If your parts were originally installed by an authorized Porsche dealer, warranty repairs may be performed by that same dealer or any other authorized Porsche Service Center in the United States. Please allow a reasonable timeframe for repairs after delivering your vehicle to the dealership.

Installed by an Independent Repair Shop

Please be aware: All warranty claims must be inspected, performed, and documented by factory-trained Porsche technicians at an authorized Porsche dealership. Work performed at an independent repair shop does not qualify for warranty consideration. If warranty coverage is a priority, we strongly recommend having your parts installed at an authorized Porsche Service Center.

Documentation Requirements for Warranty Claims

To process a warranty claim, the servicing Porsche dealer will require:

  • Your original sales receipt or order confirmation from SuncoastParts.com or Suncoast Porsche
  • A completed warranty certificate
  • Proof of proper vehicle maintenance history (if applicable)

Suncoast Porsche retains sales records on file for two years. If you need a copy of your receipt, contact us and we will provide it promptly.

Additional Warranty Terms & Legal Disclaimers

This warranty provides you with specific legal rights. You may also have additional rights that vary by state.

Porsche does not authorize any individual or organization to create additional obligations or liabilities beyond those stated in this warranty. Any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose is limited in duration to the term of this written warranty. The exclusive remedy under this warranty is the repair or replacement of the defective part.

Suncoast Porsche and SuncoastParts.com shall not be liable for any incidental or consequential damages arising from a breach of this written warranty or any implied warranty.

Some states do not permit limitations on implied warranty duration or the exclusion of incidental or consequential damages — the above limitations may not apply in your state. Additionally, installation of certain parts or accessories may affect your Porsche New Vehicle Warranty. Please consult your authorized Porsche dealer for full terms, or contact us with any questions.
