The Cayman S has carried the volume-selling torch through every generation, and the 718-era S made the case for turbocharging better than any 718 variant before the GTS arrived. Introduced alongside the base Cayman for the 2017 model year, it marked the first time Porsche's flagship mid-engine coupe relied on forced induction rather than displacement to make its performance case.
Power comes from a 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four, a larger and more powerful sibling to the base car's 2.0-liter unit, making 350 hp and 309 lb-ft. A 6-speed manual is standard, with 7-speed PDK available. With PDK and Sport Chrono, Porsche quotes 0 to 60 mph in about 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 177 mph, genuine gains over the outgoing naturally aspirated 987.2-generation S despite losing two cylinders.
The S carries over the chassis updates that came with the 718 platform, including a quicker steering rack adapted from the 911 Turbo and wider rear track versus the base car. PASM adaptive suspension and Porsche Torque Vectoring are both available as options, letting buyers dial the S closer to GTS-level dynamics without the added cost. Wider standard wheels and larger brakes separate it visually and mechanically from the base Cayman, while retaining the everyday usability that has made the S the default choice for most buyers across every Cayman generation to date.
