The Macan S launched alongside the Turbo as one of the two original variants when Porsche introduced the Macan for the 2015 model year, immediately establishing the SUV's reputation for genuinely sports-car-like handling. Positioned as the volume model within the initial lineup, the S has always represented the sweet spot for buyers who wanted real performance without stepping up to Turbo money.
Power comes from a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6, purpose-built with a short-stroke, high-revving design and compact twin-turbo layout positioned on either side of the engine, making 340 hp and 339 lb-ft. A 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission is standard, paired with all-wheel drive using an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch, no manual was ever offered on any Macan. Porsche quotes 0 to 60 mph in around 5.2 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package, and a top speed of roughly 157 mph.
VarioCam Plus variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust camshafts helps deliver an even, predictable torque curve across the rev range, a deliberate engineering choice that gave the S a notably linear power delivery compared to some contemporary turbocharged rivals. Standard equipment included 19-inch wheels, six-piston front calipers on 350mm discs, and an available air suspension system adding additional ground clearance for buyers who wanted genuine light off-road capability alongside the car's on-road sportiness. For buyers cross-shopping this generation, the S remains widely regarded as the best all-around choice within the original Macan lineup, delivering the bulk of the driving experience the Turbo offered at a considerably more accessible price point.
