The Macan GTS arrived for the 2017 model year to fill an obvious gap in the lineup: a variant positioned precisely between the Macan S and the range-topping Turbo, built specifically for buyers who wanted the sharpest-handling Macan without going all the way to Turbo money. It set a template every later GTS would follow, not the outright fastest Macan, but consistently the best-balanced.
Power comes from a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 shared with the Macan S, but with hardware changes and a unique engine calibration lifting output to 360 hp and 369 lb-ft, a useful step up from the S's 340 hp. A 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission is standard, paired with Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive, no manual was ever offered on any Macan. Porsche quotes 0 to 60 mph in around 4.8 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package, and a 159 mph top speed.
The GTS came standard with air suspension and adaptive dampers lowered 15mm versus lesser Macans, along with larger front brakes and 20-inch wheels as standard equipment rather than costly options. Gloss-black exterior accents, black window trim, and a standard sport exhaust with a noticeably deeper, harder edge distinguished it visually and audibly from the quieter Macan S. Late in this generation's run, for the 2019 model year facelift, Porsche transitioned the GTS to a newer 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 borrowed from the Turbo, lifting output to 375 hp and 383 lb-ft, so buyers and parts searches on cars from that specific model year should confirm which engine a given example actually carries.
