The Cayenne S Hybrid launched alongside the all-new second-generation 958 Cayenne for the 2011 model year as Porsche's first hybrid, sitting between the base Cayenne and Cayenne S in the lineup while aiming to deliver V8-like performance with V6 efficiency. Unlike the plug-in S E-Hybrid that would later replace it, this was a parallel full hybrid with no charge port, generating all of its electricity on board.
The powertrain paired a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 producing 333 hp with a 47 hp electric motor for a combined system output of 380 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque, figures on par with the contemporary Cayenne S despite the six-cylinder engine. Paired with the standard 8-speed Tiptronic automatic and all-wheel drive, the S Hybrid reached 60 mph in Porsche's factory-quoted 5.6 seconds (independent testing put it closer to 6.1 seconds) and topped out at 150 mph.
A separator clutch, managed by the Hybrid Manager, allowed the S Hybrid to run on the electric motor alone, the combustion engine alone, or both together, enabling electric-only driving at speeds up to 37 mph. Porsche positioned it as the cleanest model in the brand's lineup at the time, with markedly better fuel economy than the standard Cayenne S.
