The base Cayenne launched alongside the all-new second-generation 958 Cayenne for the 2011 model year, serving as the entry point into the lineup below the Cayenne S, GTS, and Turbo models. The second generation brought a lighter body structure and Panamera-influenced styling, including a redesigned front end, new instrument cluster, and revised center console, along with an available 8-speed Tiptronic automatic to replace the previous 6-speed unit as the volume transmission choice.
Power came from a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 producing 300 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The base Cayenne was offered with a standard 6-speed manual transmission, reaching 60 mph in 7.1 seconds, or with the optional 8-speed Tiptronic automatic, which added automatic start-stop technology and brought the 0-60 time to 7.4 seconds. Top speed was rated at 143 mph. All-wheel drive was standard regardless of transmission choice.
Even as the entry-level model, the base Cayenne carried over the generation's broader efficiency gains and reduced curb weight compared to its 957 predecessor, along with the availability of options like Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), typically reserved for the more powerful variants above it.
