About this model 997 GT2

The GT2 has always been Porsche's most uncompromising interpretation of the Turbo formula, and the 997 GT2 that arrived in late 2007 for the 2008 model year took that philosophy to its logical extreme. Where the Turbo used all-wheel drive to tame its power, the GT2 deliberately went the other way, pairing Turbo-derived output with rear-wheel drive alone, making it the fastest and most powerful roadgoing 911 Porsche had built at that point.

Power comes from the same 3.6-liter twin-turbo flat-six architecture as the contemporary 911 Turbo, but with larger compressor wheels, flow-optimized turbine housings, and a new expansion-style intake manifold pushing output to 530 hp and 505 lb-ft. It's available exclusively with a 6-speed manual and a lightweight single-mass flywheel, no Tiptronic or PDK was ever offered. Porsche quotes 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and a 204 mph top speed, making it the third road-going Porsche ever to break 200 mph after the 959 and GT1.

Variable Turbine Geometry on both turbochargers holds a flat torque curve from 2,200 to 4,500 rpm, virtually eliminating the lag that older twin-turbo 911s were known for. Weight savings came from carbon-fiber race bucket seats, deleted rear seats, and a narrower body than the wide-hipped Turbo it's based on, bringing curb weight to roughly 3,175 lbs despite the added power. Carbon-ceramic brakes came standard, a first for a series-production GT2, and a specially tuned version of Porsche Stability Management remained on hand as the only real safety net for a rear-wheel-drive car putting over 500 hp through its rear tires alone.
