About this model 997.2 Speedster & 911 Sport Classic

Porsche Exclusive built two of the most collectible 997.2-generation 911s ever produced, and neither was ever intended to reach volume. The Sport Classic arrived first, revealed at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show to celebrate the tradition of small-batch exclusive series, followed by the Speedster in 2010 to mark 25 years of Porsche Exclusive itself and pay tribute to the original 356 Speedster from 1954.

Both cars share the same uprated 3.8-liter direct-injected flat-six, lifted from the Carrera S but fitted with a resonance intake manifold using six vacuum-controlled tuning flaps instead of one, raising output to 408 hp and 309-310 lb-ft, 23 hp over the standard Carrera S. The Sport Classic pairs that engine exclusively with a 6-speed manual, quoting 0 to 62 mph in 4.6 seconds and a 187 mph top speed. The Speedster instead uses only the 7-speed PDK, running 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and a 190 mph top speed, with a limited-slip differential sending power to the rear wheels on both cars.

Design is where these two diverge most sharply. The Sport Classic wears a double-dome roof, a ducktail rear spoiler paying direct homage to the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7, and Fuchs-style forged wheels, all finished exclusively in a single shade of Sport Classic Grey with matching stripes, every one of the 250 units built identical in color and equipment. The Speedster instead uses a windshield lowered 60mm and steeply raked to echo the original 356, paired with a manually operated soft top under its own double-bubble hardcover and a shortened, purpose-built two-seat cockpit. Both wear the wider 44mm rear bodywork borrowed from the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 models despite remaining strictly rear-wheel drive. Production was tightly capped at 250 Sport Classics, none of which were sold new in North America, and 356 Speedsters worldwide, with roughly 100 reaching the US market, making both among the rarest and most sought-after modern 911s Porsche has built.
