The Carrera T reintroduced a nameplate that had been dormant for 45 years. Porsche announced the 991.2 Carrera T in October 2017, with deliveries beginning for the 2018 model year, reviving the purist concept behind the original 1968 911 T: less weight, shorter gearing, and a rear-wheel drive layout built around a mechanical differential lock, rather than a chase for more horsepower.
Power comes from the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six as the base Carrera, unchanged at 370 hp and 331 lb-ft. What sets the T apart is everything wrapped around that engine. A 7-speed manual comes standard, paired with a shorter final-drive ratio and a mechanical limited-slip differential, neither of which the base Carrera offers, with the 7-speed PDK available as the only optional alternative. Porsche Sport Exhaust is standard, and PASM Sport suspension drops the T 20mm lower than the standard Carrera, with dynamic engine mounts also included. The manual gets buyers to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds, dropping to 4.0 with the optional PDK, and on to a 182 mph top speed.
Beyond the mechanical upgrades, Porsche leaned into genuine weight savings, reduced sound insulation, lightweight glass, and rear seats deleted as standard, though they could be added back at no cost for buyers who wanted them. A shortened shift lever with a red shift pattern and Sport-Tex fabric seat centers rounded out the cabin, while rear-axle steering and PCCB ceramic brakes, neither offered on the base Carrera, were available as options for buyers wanting to push further.
