The Panamera GTS skipped the 971 launch entirely, with Porsche not bringing the nameplate back until the 2019 model year. When it returned, the GTS also switched engine architecture for the first time, dropping the naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V8 used in every previous GTS in favor of a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, a detuned version of the unit used in the Panamera Turbo.
The new engine produced 453 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque, a 13 hp and 73 lb-ft increase over the last naturally aspirated GTS, while also being quicker and more efficient. Paired with the standard 8-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive, the GTS reached 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and topped out at 181 mph, a full 0.3 seconds quicker to 60 mph than the 4S despite the 4S giving up only 20 hp in comparison.
As with every GTS before it, the chassis sits 0.4 inches lower than other Panamera models, with adaptive air suspension standard and dampers specifically recalibrated for sharper back-road performance. The GTS also came standard with the Sport Chrono Package, a black-tipped sport exhaust, 20-inch black wheels, and larger 15.4-inch front and 14.4-inch rear brake discs.
