The Panamera and Panamera 4 launched the second-generation 971 lineup for the 2017 model year, serving once again as the entry point below the 4S, GTS, and Turbo, with the Panamera running rear-wheel drive and the Panamera 4 adding all-wheel drive. The new generation brought a complete redesign with a lower, more coupe-like roofline, a fully digital instrument cluster, and a new 8-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission replacing the previous 7-speed unit across the lineup.
Power came from a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6, sourced from the Volkswagen Group, producing 330 hp (325 hp SAE) and 331 lb-ft of torque, shared between both the Panamera and Panamera 4. The rear-wheel-drive Panamera reached 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and topped out at 164 mph, while the all-wheel-drive Panamera 4 was marginally quicker off the line thanks to improved traction, with both sharing largely similar performance figures.
Despite sitting at the bottom of the lineup, the base models carried over the generation's full technology suite as options, including adaptive air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), rear-axle steering, and the new 12.3-inch Porsche Communication Management touchscreen with a redesigned, button-reduced center console.
