The Panamera S Hybrid launched for the 2011 model year, arriving as Porsche's first hybrid sedan and sharing its parallel hybrid architecture with the Cayenne S Hybrid introduced the same year. It slotted in as an efficiency-focused alternative to the Panamera S, using rear-wheel drive exclusively and a unique 8-speed Tiptronic transmission not offered on any other 970-generation Panamera.

The powertrain paired a supercharged 3.0-liter V6, sourced from the Volkswagen Group and tuned to produce 333 hp on its own, with a 47 hp electric motor for a combined system output of 380 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. A separator clutch allowed the car to run on the electric motor alone, the combustion engine alone, or both together, including a coasting mode that could decouple the engine entirely at speed to save fuel. The S Hybrid reached 60 mph in 5.7 to 6.0 seconds and topped out at 168 mph.

Unlike the later plug-in S E-Hybrid that replaced it for the 2014 facelift, the S Hybrid had no charge port and generated all of its electricity on board, positioning it as a fuel-efficiency play rather than an electric-range play, with notably better combined fuel economy than the standard V8 Panamera S.
