The Panamera S E-Hybrid replaced the non-plug-in S Hybrid for the 2014 model year as part of the 970.2 facelift, becoming Porsche's first plug-in hybrid and gaining a new lithium-ion battery along with a substantially more powerful electric motor. It continued to use rear-wheel drive exclusively, positioned as the efficiency-focused alternative to the Panamera S within the lineup.

The powertrain paired the same supercharged 3.0-liter V6, still producing 333 hp on its own, with a far more capable 95 hp electric motor (up from 47 hp on the outgoing S Hybrid) for a combined system output of 416 hp and 435 lb-ft of torque. Mated to the standard 8-speed Tiptronic S automatic, the S E-Hybrid reached 60 mph in 5.2 seconds and topped out at 167 mph, with an electric-only top speed of 84 mph, considerably quicker on electric power alone than its non-plug-in predecessor.

A new 9.4 kWh lithium-ion battery replaced the previous nickel-metal hydride pack, delivering an EPA-estimated 15 to 19 miles of all-electric range depending on conditions, along with a plug-in charge port for the first time on a Panamera. Porsche rated combined fuel economy at 51 MPGe running on gas and electricity together, or 25 mpg on gasoline alone.
