The Cayenne Turbo sat at the top of Porsche's original SUV lineup from launch, proving from day one that the Cayenne could deliver genuine sports car pace despite its size and weight. The Turbo S arrived later in the run, for the 2006 model year only, as the range's ultimate expression before the 2007 facelift reworked the entire lineup.
Both trims share the same 4.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 architecture. The standard Turbo produces 450 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque, good for 0 to 60 mph in around 5.6 seconds. The Turbo S, offered exclusively for 2006, steps up to 521 hp and 531 lb-ft, dropping the 0 to 60 mph time to approximately 5.1 seconds and making it the most powerful Cayenne built to that point. Both the Turbo and Turbo S came standard with air suspension, unlike the base Cayenne and Cayenne S, which relied on conventional steel springs, giving the top two trims a notably more adjustable and comfort-oriented ride out of the box. A 6-speed manual transmission was standard on the Turbo, with a 5-speed Tiptronic automatic available as an option; the Turbo S was offered exclusively with the Tiptronic automatic.
