The base Taycan arrived a year after the rest of the lineup, launching for 2021 as the entry point into Porsche's first EV. It's the only Taycan variant in the first generation to ditch the dual-motor setup entirely, running a single rear motor and rear-wheel drive, a deliberate choice that made it both the lightest and the most affordable way into the range.
In standard form, the motor produces 321 hp continuous and 402 hp on overboost with Launch Control, backed by 250 lb-ft of torque. Opting for the Performance Battery Plus doesn't change the 0 to 60 mph time, both batteries return 5.1 seconds, but it does raise output to 469 hp on overboost and torque to 263 lb-ft, along with a meaningful range improvement. The base Taycan shares its brake hardware with the 4S, six-piston front calipers and four-piston rear, though Porsche differentiates the trims cosmetically with black calipers and silver-painted wheels on the base car versus red calipers and gloss black spoke wheels on the 4S. Every base Taycan pairs its motor with the same 2-speed rear transaxle used across the lineup.
