The Panamera Turbo launched for the 2010 model year, one year after the standard Panamera debuted, taking its place at the top of the first-generation 970 lineup above the S, 4S, and later GTS. Porsche added the Turbo S for the 2012 model year as a further step above the Turbo, becoming the range-topping variant of the pre-facelift generation, right up until the 2014 model year facelift.

The Turbo used a twin-turbocharged 4.8-liter V8 producing 500 hp (493 hp SAE) and 516 lb-ft of torque, reaching 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and topping out at 188 mph. The Turbo S used a reworked version of the same engine, producing 550 hp (542 hp SAE) and 553 lb-ft of torque (590 lb-ft with overboost), a meaningful step up that dropped the 0-60 time to 3.7 seconds and pushed the top speed to 190 mph. Both were paired with a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.

Both models featured adaptive air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), an adaptive rear spoiler, and large brakes to handle their performance, with the Turbo S adding standard Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), 14-way power-adjustable front seats, and additional interior trim upgrades over the standard Turbo.
