The Panamera Turbo launched alongside the second-generation 971 lineup for the 2017 model year, remaining the range-topping performance variant above the base models, 4S, and later GTS, before the Turbo S superseded it with the 2021 update. The Turbo switched to a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, 30 hp more than its predecessor despite a smaller displacement, replacing the previous 4.8-liter unit.
The new engine produced 550 hp and 567 lb-ft of torque, paired with the standard 8-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive. The Turbo reached 60 mph in as little as 3.4 to 3.8 seconds depending on options and testing conditions, and topped out at 190 mph.
The Turbo came standard with adaptive air suspension, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) using an electric rather than hydraulic system for the first time, and rear-axle steering, along with distinctive quad exhaust tips and unique front and rear styling to set it apart from the rest of the lineup.
