The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid launched for the 2018 model year, arriving as the first Panamera hybrid offered with all-wheel drive, and moving hybrid duty from the previous rear-wheel-drive-only S E-Hybrid over to Porsche's proven Panamera 4 chassis. It debuted at the 2016 Paris Motor Show as the fourth model added to the new-generation lineup.
The powertrain paired a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6, using a "hot vee" layout with the turbochargers nested inside the engine's V for a more compact package, producing 330 hp on its own, with a substantially more powerful 136 hp electric motor for a combined system output of 462 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Mated to the new 8-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, a first for a Porsche hybrid, the 4 E-Hybrid reached 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and topped out at 172 mph.
A 14.1 kWh lithium-ion battery, nearly 50 percent larger than the outgoing S E-Hybrid's pack, delivered up to 31 miles of all-electric range under the European testing cycle (EPA-rated range came in lower under US testing standards). Unlike the previous generation, the 4 E-Hybrid always launches in electric mode by default, engaging the combustion engine only as needed, and offers dedicated E-Power, Hybrid Auto, E-Hold, and E-Charge drive modes as part of the Sport Chrono Package.
