The Panamera S and 4S entered the facelifted 970.2 generation for the 2014 model year with an entirely new engine, replacing the previous naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V8 with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 producing 420 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque, a 20 hp gain over the outgoing V8 along with a meaningful improvement in fuel efficiency. The S ran rear-wheel drive while the 4S added all-wheel drive, and starting with this generation, Porsche also introduced the 4S Executive, a long-wheelbase version stretching the wheelbase by 5.9 inches and adding 4.7 inches of rear legroom for a more limousine-like experience, aimed in large part at the growing Chinese market.
Paired with the standard 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, the rear-wheel-drive S reached 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, or 4.6 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package's launch control, while the all-wheel-drive 4S shaved about three tenths off that time. The heavier, longer 4S Executive gave back a bit of that quickness, landing closer to 4.8 to 5.0 seconds to 60 mph. All three topped out at 178 mph.
Beyond the added rear-seat space, the 4S Executive included the same 20-inch wheel and interior trim options available on the standard-wheelbase 4S, along with standard heated and ventilated rear seats and additional rear-seat comfort features suited to chauffeured use. All models in this facelift generation gained standard bi-xenon headlights, an available full-LED lighting package, and the updated Porsche Communication Management infotainment system with Apple CarPlay support.
