About this model 997.2 Turbo / Turbo S

The 2010 facelift ended one of the most storied engine lineages in 911 history: this was the first 911 Turbo to leave the Mezger engine behind entirely, replacing it with a new direct-injected architecture shared with the contemporary Carrera lineup. It was a controversial trade for purists chasing motorsport pedigree, but the new engine delivered genuine gains in efficiency, response, and outright speed that the old design couldn't match.

The Turbo's new 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six with direct fuel injection makes 500 hp and 479 lb-ft (516 lb-ft with Sport Chrono overboost), a 20 hp gain over the outgoing 997.1 car. All-wheel drive remains standard, and the 6-speed manual is joined for the first time by 7-speed PDK, now built with its own limited-slip differential rather than sharing the Carrera's unit. Porsche quotes 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds with PDK, Sport Chrono, and Launch Control, and a 194 mph top speed.

The Turbo S arrived alongside the standard car as a permanent catalog addition rather than a limited edition, using more aggressive intake valve timing and boost pressure raised from 14.5 to 17.4 psi to reach 530 hp and 516 lb-ft. It comes standard with PDK only, no manual is offered on the S, along with PCCB ceramic brakes, a titanium-tipped sport exhaust, centerlock wheels, and Alcantara headlining as standard equipment rather than costly options. Both cars retain Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive with the retuned electronic system introduced on the facelifted Carrera 4, and while the new engine gives up the Mezger name's racing lineage, it makes the 997.2 Turbo a noticeably more refined, quicker-shifting, and more efficient machine than the car it replaced.
