The Cayenne S returns to a V8 for the 2024 model year as part of the facelifted 9Y3 generation, bringing back a twin-turbo 4.0-liter eight-cylinder after the previous generation's S trim had moved to a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6. Available in both standard SUV and Coupe body styles, the S slots in as the mid-range performance option above the base Cayenne and below the GTS, E-Hybrid, and range-topping Turbo E-Hybrid and Turbo GT models.
Power comes from the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, a detuned version of the engine used in the higher-output Cayenne models, producing 468 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque, a 34 hp and 37 lb-ft increase over the outgoing V6. Paired with the standard 8-speed Tiptronic S automatic and all-wheel drive, the Cayenne S reaches 60 mph in 4.4 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono Package and tops out at 169 mph.
Beyond the engine swap, the Cayenne S carries the full suite of 2024 facelift updates, including new two-valve PASM dampers with separate compression and rebound tuning, a redesigned cabin with a 12.6-inch curved digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch center infotainment display, and standard lane change and lane keep assist.
