2019-2023 (9Y0)
The third-generation Cayenne launched for 2019 as a ground-up redesign built on the Volkswagen Group's MLB platform, moving decisively away from any lingering off-road pretense to become a pure road-focused performance SUV. It also introduced the Cayenne Coupe body style for 2020, giving buyers a sloped-roof alternative to the standard SUV silhouette for the first time.
The base Cayenne launched with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 at 335 hp, while the S used a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 at 434 hp, and the Turbo topped the initial range with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 at 541 hp. Porsche expanded the lineup through the generation's run: the E-Hybrid arrived pairing the base V6 with an electric motor for 455 hp combined, the GTS returned for 2021 with a 453 hp version of the V8, distinct from the previous-generation GTS's V6 setup, and the Turbo S E-Hybrid became the range's flagship, combining the Turbo's V8 with the hybrid system for 670 hp, the most powerful Cayenne built up to that point. The Turbo GT arrived last, for 2022, as a Coupe-exclusive model tuned specifically for outright pace, at 631 hp and 626 lb-ft, and went on to set the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record for an SUV at 7:38.9, a benchmark that stood as the Cayenne's calling card heading into the 2024 facelift.
