About this model 997.2 GT2 RS

Porsche revealed the GT2 RS at the 2010 Moscow Auto Show as the definitive send-off for the 997 generation, and it arrived as the fastest, most powerful road car the company had ever built at that point. Announced with a 7 minute, 18 second Nürburgring lap time that beat the contemporary Carrera GT supercar, it left no doubt about its intentions from the outset.

Power comes from an evolved version of the twin-turbo Mezger flat-six shared with the standard GT2, itself derived from the engine developed for the GT1 Le Mans race car, now with new four-valve heads, VarioCam Plus, and Variable Turbine Geometry pushing output to 620 hp and 516 lb-ft, a 90 hp gain over the standard GT2. Power routes exclusively through a 6-speed manual to the rear wheels, no automatic and no all-wheel drive were ever offered. Porsche quotes 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and a 205 mph top speed, backed by a power-to-weight ratio the company called the best in its class at launch.

Porsche trimmed roughly 154 lbs from the already-light standard GT2 through extensive use of carbon fiber for the hood and body panels, a single-mass flywheel, centerlock wheels, and aluminum suspension components, bringing curb weight down to about 3,021 lbs. Carbon-ceramic brakes came standard, and a distinctive bi-plane rear wing added the aerodynamic downforce needed to keep the car planted at its top speed. Production was strictly limited to 500 units worldwide, with only 132 delivered to the United States through Porsche Cars North America, making the GT2 RS one of the rarest and most valuable modern 911s Porsche has ever built, and the last GT2 RS offered exclusively with a manual transmission before Porsche moved to PDK-only for the following generation.
