The Carrera S has long been the variant most buyers land on, and Porsche gave it a genuine step up for 992.2 rather than just a mid-cycle nudge. The Carrera S launched in January 2025 for the 2025 model year, following the base Carrera and GTS T-Hybrid to market by several months. The all-wheel drive Carrera 4S and the retractable-roof Targa 4S joined the lineup later, arriving July 2, 2025 for the 2026 model year, filling out the rest of the S-trim range.
All three share the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six, now fitted with new turbochargers and extensively reworked charge-air cooling for 473 hp and 390 lb-ft, a 30 hp gain over the outgoing 992.1 S. That's enough for a 3.1 second run to 60 mph with the Sport Chrono Package and a 191 mph top speed, identical across the rear-wheel drive Carrera S and the all-wheel drive 4S. Porsche made the S genuinely feel like a step above the base Carrera rather than just more power, standard equipment now includes a Sport Exhaust with silver tailpipes, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, and brakes borrowed straight from the previous-generation GTS, 408mm up front and 380mm at the rear. Staggered 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels come standard, and PASM Sport suspension is available to drop ride height 10mm.
The tradeoff enthusiasts should know about: the 7-speed manual is gone. Porsche confirmed the S line moved to PDK exclusively for 992.2, so anyone wanting three pedals in a Coupe now has to look to the Carrera T or GT3 instead.
