Porsche debuted the facelifted 991.2 Turbo and Turbo S at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2016, arriving in showrooms for the 2017 model year in both Coupe and Cabriolet body styles. It was a mid-cycle refresh, but Porsche didn't treat it like one, both cars got real hardware upgrades alongside the styling revisions.
The 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six picked up modified intake ports, new fuel injectors, and higher fuel pressure, pushing the standard Turbo to 540 hp, a 20 hp gain over the pre-facelift car. The Turbo S went further, gaining turbochargers with larger compressor impellers specific to the S for the first time, for 580 hp and 553 lb-ft, with an overboost function pushing torque to 590 lb-ft under the right conditions. Both routed power through a 7-speed PDK exclusively, no manual was offered on either Turbo model this generation, and all-wheel drive came standard across the board.
The Turbo S carried extra hardware the standard Turbo didn't get, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control hydraulic anti-roll bars came standard, along with PCCB ceramic composite brakes, a feature that's been standard on the S since the 996 generation. Wheels grew to 20 inches across both cars, with the standard Turbo now matching the Turbo S in width front and rear. Inside, Porsche introduced its updated PCM infotainment system with a multi-touch 7-inch screen, complete with Google Maps integration and real-time traffic, alongside a new 918-inspired steering wheel with the drive mode selector built into the hub.
