About this model 911 Carrera GTS, Carrera 4 GTS & Targa 4 GTS (991.1)

The GTS badge returned to the 911 lineup for 2014, positioned as a hand-picked "greatest hits" package sitting between the Carrera S and the GT3. Porsche launched the Carrera GTS Coupe and Cabriolet first, in both rear- and all-wheel drive form, followed by the Targa 4 GTS for the 2015 model year, marking the first time a GTS Targa had ever been offered and coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Targa body style itself.

Every GTS variant runs the same naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six, tuned to 430 hp and 325 lb-ft, a 30 hp gain over the contemporary Carrera S. A 7-speed manual came standard, driving the rear wheels through a mechanical limited-slip differential, with the 7-speed PDK and all-wheel drive available as options on Coupe and Cabriolet variants. So equipped, the rear-wheel drive manual GTS Coupe was the fastest-accelerating car in the entire Carrera lineup at the time, hitting 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and topping out at 190 mph, 2 mph higher than the Carrera S.

Porsche built the GTS around bundling desirable options into one package rather than adding new hardware. Every variant got PASM adaptive suspension with a lowered ride height, the Sport Chrono Package, forged center-lock 20-inch wheels in black, dynamic engine mounts, and a distinctive sport exhaust. Alcantara trim ran through the cabin on the steering wheel, shifter, seat inserts, and door panels, while smoked headlights and black exterior trim set the GTS apart visually. The Carrera 4 GTS added all-wheel drive to the same 430 hp platform, and the Targa 4 GTS paired that AWD drivetrain with the signature retractable Targa roof, making it the most expensive naturally aspirated 911 in the lineup at the time, pricier even than the GT3.
