About this model 911 GT3 RS (991.1)

The 991.1 GT3 RS made its world premiere at the 2015 Geneva International Motor Show, arriving as US model year 2016 and setting the visual template every GT3 RS since has followed, wide-body Turbo-derived proportions, front fender louvers, and a large rear wing all made their debut here. It marked a significant step up from the standard GT3, with Porsche leaning even further into motorsport-derived hardware.

Power comes from a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six, the largest displacement and most powerful naturally aspirated direct-injection engine Porsche had built for a road-going 911 at the time, producing 500 hp and 338 lb-ft, revving to an 8,800 rpm limit. It came exclusively with a specially developed 7-speed PDK, no manual was offered, continuing the direction the standard GT3 had set two years earlier. That combination delivered a 3.3 second run to 62 mph and, more importantly, a factory-set 7:20 Nürburgring lap, a time that beat even the legendary Carrera GT supercar and made the RS the benchmark in its class the moment it launched.

Porsche built the widebody straight from the 911 Turbo, giving the RS a genuinely different stance from the standard GT3 rather than just a wing and some stickers. The cabin borrowed carbon fiber bucket seats derived from the 918 Spyder, and the Club Sport Package came standard, adding a bolted-in roll cage behind the front seats, prep for a battery master switch, a six-point harness mount for the driver, and a fire extinguisher bracket, genuine track-day equipment straight from the factory. Carbon ceramic brakes came standard as well, six-piston front calipers and four-piston rear.
