2017-2019 (991.2)
The 991.2 marked a turning point for the 911, bringing turbocharging to nearly every model in the lineup except the naturally aspirated GT cars. Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015, with US deliveries spanning the 2017 through 2019 model years, this generation covered everything from the everyday Carrera to some of the most extreme 911s Porsche has ever built.
The base Carrera, Carrera 4, and Targa 4 introduced a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six at 370 hp, the first turbo engine in a standard 911. The Carrera S line stepped up to 420 hp, the Carrera T offered a lightweight manual-only alternative, and the GTS family pushed the same displacement to 450 hp across Coupe, Cabriolet, and Targa body styles. At the top of the standard range, the Turbo and Turbo S carried a 3.8-liter twin-turbo six to 540 and 580 hp.
Above them, Porsche's GT department kept things naturally aspirated. The GT3 and GT3 Touring brought the manual transmission back to the lineup at 500 hp, the GT3 RS pushed to 520 hp and a 6:56.4 Nürburgring lap, and the GT2 RS topped the range entirely at 700 hp, briefly the fastest production car around the Nürburgring. Porsche closed out the generation with the 911 Speedster, a 1,948-unit farewell built around GT3 running gear.
