The 981 Boxster GTS arrived as a late addition to the lineup in 2014 for the 2015 model year, and it stands today as a genuine turning point: the last Boxster GTS ever built with a naturally aspirated flat-six before Porsche moved the entire 718 lineup to turbocharged four-cylinders in 2017. For enthusiasts who value engine character over outright efficiency, this generation represents the final expression of an era that won't come back.
Power comes from an uprated version of the Boxster S's 3.4-liter flat-six, tuned for an additional 15 hp over the S to reach 330 hp and 273 lb-ft. A 6-speed manual is standard, with 7-speed PDK available. Porsche quotes 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds with PDK and Sport Chrono, and a 174 mph top speed, genuinely quick figures for a naturally aspirated roadster even by today's standards.
The GTS bundled equipment that remained optional elsewhere in the lineup: Porsche Active Suspension Management and the Sport Chrono Package both came standard, working together to let the driver toggle between comfortable long-distance cruising and genuine track-day sharpness at the press of a button. Distinctive front and rear fascias, blackened trim, and 20-inch Carrera S-style wheels set the GTS apart visually, while an Alcantara-trimmed interior and sport seats rounded out the cabin. Because this was the final naturally aspirated Boxster GTS before the turbocharged 718 era began, clean examples have become increasingly sought after among buyers who want the raw, unfiltered flat-six experience without ever having to compromise on daily usability.
