The Panamera GTS debuted for the 2012 model year, joining the first-generation 970 lineup as a new sport-focused variant slotting between the Panamera 4S and the Turbo, essentially built as a detuned Turbo rather than a simply upgraded 4S. It borrowed much of its visual identity from the Turbo, including the SportDesign front fascia, large air intakes, bi-xenon headlights with black inner bezels, and an adaptive rear spoiler that deploys above 121 mph.
Power came from a naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V8 producing 430 hp (424 hp SAE) and 384 lb-ft of torque, using the same base engine as the Panamera S and 4S but with reworked camshafts and intake borrowed from the Turbo. Paired with the standard 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive, the GTS reached 60 mph in as little as 4.1 seconds with launch control and topped out at 179 mph.
Beyond the added power, the GTS rode 10 mm lower than the standard Panamera on a specially tuned version of Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), with a wider front and rear track and larger brakes to match its higher performance ceiling. Inside, it featured standard sport seats, a Sport Design steering wheel, and GTS-specific leather and Alcantara trim.
