About this model 718 Boxster Spyder RS

Porsche closed out the internal combustion 718 lineup with genuinely the strongest possible statement: dropping the 911 GT3's engine into an open-top mid-engine roadster for the first time ever. Revealed in mid-2023 for the 2024 model year, the Spyder RS is the drop-top counterpart to the Cayman GT4 RS, and it stands as the last gasoline-powered 718 introduced before the lineup transitions to electric power.

The Spyder RS shares its 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six directly with the 911 GT3 and GT4 RS, revving to 9,000 rpm and making 493 hp and 331 lb-ft, a 79 hp jump over the standard Spyder despite the mid-engine layout's longer exhaust routing trimming a few horsepower versus the GT3 itself. The engine breathes through intake snorkels routed behind the seats, feeding a lightweight stainless steel sport exhaust standard on every car. A 7-speed PDK with shortened ratios is the only transmission offered, no manual works with this engine in the mid-engine layout. Porsche quotes 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and a 191 mph top speed.

Weight comes in around 3,214 lbs, just 59 lbs lighter than a PDK-equipped standard Spyder, achieved through a carbon-fiber front lid with a wide air outlet and NACA ducts for brake cooling, both borrowed nearly unchanged from the GT4 RS. The chassis blends hardware from the standard Spyder and GT4 RS, replacing rubber suspension bushings with solid ball joints while keeping softer springs and adaptive dampers tuned for a slightly more comfortable ride than the hardcore GT4 RS, with ride height, camber, toe, and anti-roll bar stiffness all manually adjustable. A mechanical limited-slip differential is standard, and Porsche recommends keeping speeds under 122 mph with the manually operated two-piece soft top in place, a small reminder that this remains a genuine roadster underneath its motorsport-grade powertrain.
