The T badge has a long history at Porsche, dating back to the 1968 911 T's stripped-down, driver-first philosophy, and Porsche revived that idea for the Boxster for the 2020 model year. The Boxster T isn't about more power, it's about taking the least expensive engine in the range and building the sharpest-handling chassis around it, a formula purists have responded to strongly.
The Boxster T uses the same 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four as the base Boxster, making 300 hp and 280 lb-ft, with no power increase over the standard car. What sets it apart is everything wrapped around that engine: PASM Sport suspension, previously requiring at least an S-spec car to option, comes standard here with a 20mm lower ride height, shorter springs, and retuned adaptive dampers. A 6-speed manual is standard, with PDK available. Porsche quotes 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds with the manual, 4.6 with PDK, and a 171 mph top speed.
A mechanical limited-slip differential paired with Porsche Torque Vectoring, a Sport Exhaust System, and the Sport Chrono Package all come standard on the T, items that remain optional extras on the base Boxster and even the S. Wider 20-inch wheels borrowed from the 911 Carrera S, a shortened manual shift lever with red gear markings, and a lightweight fabric top rather than power-operated hardware round out the changes. The result is a car that trades the S's straight-line speed advantage for a genuinely sharper chassis at a lower price point than the S, appealing to buyers who value handling feel over horsepower figures.
