For Taycan owners that wish for more at-home charging capability, an AC 19.2 kW
on-board charger upgrade is now available. This doubles the amount of power the Taycan can receive when charging via a compatible 19.2 kW capable level 2 AC charger.
Located behind the front trunk area, this new module replaces the existing on-board charger and associated wiring included with the car. One benefit specifically for 2020 Taycan model year cars is the ability to enable Plug and Charge in conjunction with a valid My Porsche account.
Charging time at 19.2 kW from 0-100% for the Performance Battery Plus is ~ five hours, versus 9.5 hours for the previous charger. An authorized Porsche service center will have to install the kit, estimated installation time is about 12 hours of work. If you're ordering a Taycan, you can add this option while ordering the vehicle (option KB4).
It must be noted that in order to perform at 19.2 kW, a home charging unit like Porsche's Wall Charger Connect must be used to achieve the higher output. This home charger must be hardwired to a dedicated, 100-amp circuit. Porsche advises to consult with an electrician to fully understand the logistics and costs associated with that type of installation.
