Porsche Automatic watch
Date: November 1, 2016
Suncoast needs to disclose that they don't cary many items in-stock and the wait time is over a month. Even when I called them and emailed a few times, they could not update me on the status when the items will be shipped. No one there knows anything.
The watch arrived but the box or its items were apparently dropped and there was severe damage to the 911 miniature that comes with this limited edition set. There was gross damage to the top and scratches to the side of the miniature. I am extremely upset about the fact that after all this waiting, they sent me a damaged item. If you are looking to get the only automatic watch that Porsche has in its collection, the watch is very nice although there is absolutely no information on the manufacture and movement. SunCoast, please if are selling a $2,000 item, at least you owe your customers information about the items you are selling. i did an extensive research myself. The watch was made by ETERNA for Porsche Design. ETERNA's watches are about the same price range as this watch. This particular watch shares the parts, movement and design with the Eterna KonTiki watch. Eterna, a prominent swiss watchmaker is usually the lower grade. This is NOT the IWC movement that Porsche Design used to place in their watches. porsche Design watches used to be top-notch and they carried some of the best chromo movements around. This watch seems to carry the cheapest Eterna movement as the company was sold in 2012 to the Chinese. Since than (for obvious resorbs) Porsche has discontinued their relationship with Eterna, now a Chinese company and this is the last mechanical movement that will come out of that company hence the $600 discount and Driver Selection clearance. If I had know all that, probably I was not going to buy the watch. nEVERTHELESS, it is working just fine for the few weeks Ive had it. If you are looking for a limited edition Posche 911 automatic watch with 42 caliber (on the larger side) dress watch, this is a very nice steel watch with a large black face and relatively basic ETA movement. I like the sapphire (skeletonized) back showing the mechanism, which is a feature of a more expensive watch. I like that Eterna has customized the rotor with the word: "Porsche" (only) vs. the typical Porsche Design. The rotor is in a Porsche black with white letters. It reminds me of the white Porsche sign on the brake calipers. I hate the cowhide letter strap - at this price point, alligator is standard and a must. But if you ever develop a buyers remorse, just remind yourself that there is only 1911 made (match the Porsche 911 Black Edition limited series). I also kinda of like to think that the strap matches my 911 interior with the double-stick white baseball thread. Even the black letter feels like it was a left-over caw-hide from the 911 interior. Of course that is wishful thinking but it really does the trick.
