Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way up front. This is one expensive trim piece in leather. You have to be a little crazy to spend this kind of money. That said, my original console trim piece had the OEM "soft touch" paint, which had worn where I slide things (e.g., cell phone) into the cubby in front of the shift lever. A replacement console trim in the original soft touch paint is actually very reasonably priced. But I knew my driving behavior would never change. I will always remove my cell phone from my pocket and shove it into the cubby, sliding it over the front edge of the console trim piece, each and every time I get into my car. Therefore, the soft touch paint on any replacement piece would be on borrowed time the minute it is installed. Given that my car is now 12 years old, replacement parts are getting harder and harder to come by, putting me a greater risk of eventually not being able to buy the soft touch painted replacement piece when any new one got too scuffed up. Therefore, I ordered the leather console trim piece because the leather will always hold up much better to daily use compared to the soft touch original. I think this product solves the ugly wear problem forever so I no longer have to worry about it turning into unobtainium. I installed mine myself in about a half hour using a plastic trim tool and two torx drivers. If you plan to ditch your Porsche in the next year or two, get the OEM replacement (assuming it is still available). However, if you plan to keep your car forever, or at least for a very long time, go a little crazy and get this leather version. Crazy, yes -- crazy like a fox.
