Perfect fit, but decorative trim is not the same as original. Black ring stays on the lighter when removed, instead of staying on the dash end. This leaves an unattractive silver ring when lighter is removed. Pros- all my 12 volt adapters fit!

Looks like original with the included light ring, pretty easy to install (find some instructions online, the only tricky part is getting the old one out, this is explained well in the various 986/996 support forums) and it solves the annoying problem of the 12V adapter being too loose to hold your phone or GPS charger.

The main trick is removing the existing unit. If you do not mind destroying it, carefully pry the dash panel loose. Then bend the metal tabs on the inside of the lighter 180 degrees so they point straight out. I started with a screw driver and then used plyers. This allows you to press in the plastic retaining tabs on the back side of the dash panel and release the existing unit. From there it was easy. Took about 10 minutes and new unit works great in my 2001 Boxster S!

Easy 15 minute install, now my phone charger and other items fit great! The connectors kept falling out of the old lighter socket.
